if you have a slow connection this might take a while
We´re officially moving in tomorrow and we just discovered that we are more broke than we thought so we probably won´t have internet for a while...in the mean time, I wanted to post some pictures....
This is how much luggage we felt it took to move to Mexico....6 suitcases with us, and one with a friend who left a day earlier!
fireworks on New Years
And now the pictures of our apartment....it´s not incredible but it´s definately cute and cozy. by the time i´m done with it, i´m sure we won´t want to leave!
(front gate)
(walk way leading to apartment)
and finally.....the apartment. It´s small and still needs work to be completely to my liking, but it´s nice (for being in the center of Mexico City) and the perfect size for us....
(front door/living room)
(living room leading to bedroom)
(bedroom and new bed)
(the horrible, horrible bathroom where someone painted the toilet seat green....we bought a new one today)
(leading to the laundry room)
(the ceiling of the laundry room....it's going to be cool when it rains...that is, if it doesn't leak)
(the kitchen that also needs a lot of work....aka a stove, oven etc)
and last but not least "La Loquita". This lady lives above us...everyday she fills bucket after bucket after bucket with water and throws it on the floor inside her apartment. She literally lives in a pool. The other tenants call her La Loquita. Toño's dad calls her La Señora del Agua, The Water Lady

cooooool eyecandy for ur blog!! i like that random brick in the middle of the bathroom pic it looks cozy ^_^ lol. i look foward to seein what u can do with the place~
i was gonna post about the 'idols' post when u posted the new post tho so here i go
it's interesting what u said about there being so much blasphemy, but i doubt what they intend to do is hate on god. in anycase, its not up to us to judge how god will judge them, but i'd like to believe god judges us based on whats in our hearts and that will overshadow any human flaws we may possess from original sin. if anything it's probably a simple envy of how close to god those people are that makes them feel such compassion towards their idols.
(there was something here i wanted to add but i forget now so w/e)
also what does their need for more idols say about their society and a need for reason amongst chaos? i hate to bring out marx's idea that religion is the opiate of the masses, but on some level i believe it.... regardless of what my religious views are.
and wow i dint even know u were religious till now so sorry if anything i wrote is completely wrong
dan
i knew u couldnt keep up the daily post trend. u r weak!
Baby girl, I miss your face already, not that i saw you that often, but I could if I wanted to.
Your place is very cute, and I have no doubt you will make it all your own. Take it from my experience, NO washers in the shower, NO electrical ANYTHING in the shower!! YIKES!
As for the Idols... I always felt that the Catholic faith is one of the most comforting of many. Where else can you go when you feel you are not worthy, and beseech (sp?) the blessed saints, grandparents, loved ones who are long gone, &etc., to intercede on your behalf? I never got that we were worshiping Idols... Only asking for a favor, asking for an intersession, asking for help. after all, God is a busy Diety, to ask for his time, his blessing, his guidance directly seems mostly arrogant to me, better to bend the ear of a someone I knew in life, or someone like a mom, say, Jesus's Mom? You know, moms & dads are there for us, (well some are, some aren't) Grandma's & Grandpas are there for us, Auntie's and Uncles, sisters and brothers are there for us and we don't feel bad about taking their time, and we don't feel like we are going to get judged. It's like comfort food for our souls. not a day goes by that I don't ask Chana or Pop for advice or, I may just say hi, I don't think praying to them is worshipping them, I ask them to put in a good word for me, I always assumed other Catholics were doing the same. I think God gets that. I doubt he minds much, just as long as we know that there is only ONE true GOD.
Just some grist for thought...
So far I've seen a lot of biased judgements rather than questions about Mexican culture, and uninformed statements towards the Church, rather than reporting of your observations of that culture. If a big stature of the Pope or anyone else is there, it is because that is what us folks wanted. We build these things with our manos. Who cares if it is expensive, and could have "helped" the poor. It is all only "stuff" anyway. By being there it reminds of that great saint, and it will remain there long after the handouts have gone. Us Mexicans don't want any handouts in lieu of our art and big churches. These statues aren't idols, anymore than pictures of your loved ones are, and these "idols" will be there long after the last condesending marxist liberal has died. We don't have much stuff, but we got heart and soul. Take your time, and forgot the doo-doo your liberal school teachers have taught you. We don't need saving, either by the marxists, or by the CIA. They don't know us, and never will. That's why they live in a classroom. Americanos say: "Those who can, DO, and those who can't, teach". May the Peace of God desend on you, and remain forever. El Veijo
Hi there Hon, if anyone can start something you sure can. Thank you for being honest with you thoughts. People may not agree and some will except parts of it and that is ok. Just remember to keep and open mind to all thing that come you way, that is how you learn.
I miss you.
